Changing Specialty Stores

I visited Kyoto in January of this year.
This time, I avoided transportation as much as possible.
I walked along Gojozaka and the street lined with Kiyomizu-yaki pottery shops, interested in pottery, and browsed each one.
It seemed like there were fewer shops compared to before Covid-19 pandemic.
As business owners get older, there are a noticeable number of store closures, perhaps due to difficulties in finding successors and running the business.
Instead, hotels and apartment buildings have proliferated, and it feels like the old castle town is disappearing.

When I returned to Shijo and took a quick stroll through Nishiki Market, I also felt like the atmosphere of the market had changed.
Something strange was happening in the market, which used to be a specialty store with "fishmongers, vegetable vendors, traditional sandals vendors, dried fish vendors, and fruit vendors."
Many of the stalls selling skewered food, which customers can eat in one bite while walking, are gradually transforming into "shops for foreign tourists," and fewer and fewer people are coming to shop.
Has home cooking changed?
I'm sad to see such wonderful and interesting specialty stores closing!
